The second Trump administration is a far cry from his reign of chaos in 2017. His 2017 administration was characterized by rapid firing and replacements, incompetence, and general chaos and stupidity. In his first 2 weeks in 2025, He signed 50 executive orders, many of which have been called into question as to their constitutionality.
Donald Trump has appointed more supreme court justices than any president in recent memory. 6 of the 9 concurrent supreme court justices were appointed by conservative republicans, keep in mind that these justices serve till death or retirement, and the house and senate have a republican majority. It seemed unlikely that there would be any roadblocks for him and his power would go unchecked.
Then, as though the government was becoming a dreamworks movie (an eerily accurate description upon further thought), an unlikely hero appeared, the supreme court of the united states, or, for the sake of space, SCOTUS. When the nation was still young, there was a supreme court case that shaped how the court still operates today. The case ‘marbury v madison’ established the power of judicial review.
In essence, judicial review is the power of the court to determine the constitutionality of a law or action taken by congress or the president, and even a past supreme court.
As mentioned before, many have called into question the constitutionality of his executive orders. The executive orders that have mainly been called into question include (but in no way are limited to): ‘Eradicating Anti-Christian Bias’ called into criticism for its thinly veiled homophobia, ‘Establishing the White House Faith Office’ called into question for being a barely hidden attempt to establish christianity as the national religion, and an EO removing birthright citizenship, being in direct violation of article i, section viii of the United States Constitution which states “[congress shall have the power] to establish uniform rule of naturalization”
It may have been repealed, as it appears to be missing from the whitehouse.gov page of presidential actions. As mentioned, the list above is in no way comprehensive of executive orders called into question, or executive orders that may be unconstitutional.
He has also attempted to stop the minting of the penny, as it is a genuine waste of money. For each 1¢ coin, the government spends 1.8¢. The penny is also essentially worthless in today's economic climate. Try paying for a 30 dollar item with three thousand pennies, weighing around 30 pounds. There are a whole host of reasons that the penny should have stopped being minted thirty years ago, the issue with him trying to stop their minting is that he is simply not allowed to do that.
Article i, Section viii of the United States Constitution states “[Congress shall have the power] To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin…” Meaning that congress is fully allowed to stop the minting of the penny, Trump isn’t. Though, after he tweeted it, the republican majority will probably be bending over backwards to kill the coin.
Back to SCOTUS, APnews stated ...Trump met with mixed success at the court in his first term. By a 5-4 vote, the justices upheld his ban on travel to the U.S. from several mostly Muslim countries, but only after courts had blocked the first two versions of it…” He usually gets his way when it comes to SCOTUS.
Trump seems to be pushing the limits of what he’s allowed to do, by which I mean: The government (and his supporters) draw a line, he steps over it, they bend over backwards to justify it, draw the line anew, repeat. If nothing is done, we all know where this goes, no matter how many times you reset the simulation, it always goes to the same place. His power could, very easily, go unchecked, and unchallenged.
In Germany, on february 27th, 1933, a man set fire to the reichstag building. Adolf hitler, who had been appointed chancellor at the time, used the event to pressure the German parliament to do 2 things. Firstly, he claimed the attacker was a jewish communist (cough cough kanye), pressuring them to go after jews and communists. Second, he pressured parliament to give him more power, power that he then used to get more power, which continued for some time (not a lot of time at all actually), until, eventually, he became a dictator.
This is being brought up numerous times by anybody to the left of fucker Carlson. Trump has used illegal immigration to get to power, he will likely use it to become a dictator. The parallels are disturbing, and deeply jarring. This is the slippery slope of power. Hitler blamed jews, gays, and communists for all of Germany's woes, Trump blamed immigrants, and gays, and communists. When you give someone who wants a mile, centimeter, they will end up with the mile.
Trump famously said, after his 2016 victory “there will be no more elections after me”. When someone that dangerous, says something like that. It’s typically good advice to listen. Reset the simulation a million times, different countries, different ‘other people’, different dictators, it always ends the same. Those who remain ignorant, are just as bad as those who enable.
History and knowledge are the 2 most important things to have in times such as this. The Nazis came for education, they came for the ‘intellectuals’ and the ‘elites’. Is any of this ringing a bell? The modern republican party labels college and education as a whole as “woke indoctrination factories”, that is a direct quote from Ron DeSantis’ campaign when he ran for governor of florida.
Trump labels Mexicans as sub-human. Lauren Boebert used the T slur, and then bragged about it on twitter. Margorie Talor Greene (an elected representative) believes that Democrats can use ‘Jewish Space Lasers’ (direct quote) to change the weather. Ben Shapiro (not a government official but still one of the most influential right wingers) writes like a 10 year old. Trump´s power could go unchecked if the supreme court doesn’t step in. Trump is pushing the limits of what he’s allowed to do, and with a majority in congress and SCOTUS, there's nothing to stop him from doing whatever he wants.
